Preparing For An F1 Visa? Here Are Do’s & Don’ts

Before you go to your US Student Visa Interview, here are some things you should know:

It is a formal interaction between two or more persons – the Interviewer/s and the Interviewee – much like any other interview. And, just like any other interview, you’ll need to prepare for this one. So, before you start worrying about the interview questions or the Interview Officer, there are a few things you should do. Remember, the secret to success is doing your homework…

· Prepare your file, which should be thoroughly catalogued and labelled with every conceivable document. Even though you will not be asked for any documents, it is critical to ensure that all of them are filed and catalogued (refer to the upcoming list of documents to carry during the interview).

· Examine your admission essay or statement of purpose, as well as the complete list of universities and courses to which you applied.

· Examine the course you’ve registered in, the credit systems available, the tenure, faculty, and course highlights — in other words, why you chose that particular university.

· Learn about the state you’ll be visiting, the history of the university, and the surrounding area.

· Examine your financial documents to determine how you will fund your study in the United States.

Here are Do’s & Don’ts you must consider

Do’s

1. Smile

A confident smile is contagious. There’s no need to be serious. Your dream of studying in the United States has come true, and you are one step closer to realising it. You now have a reason to smile…

2. Speak Fluent English

One of the most important qualifications for pursuing school in the United States is the ability to communicate in English. You must be able to communicate in English.

3. Make Eye Contact

The inability to make eye contact is regarded as an indication of deception. Practice at home, and when answering questions, make sure to look at the interviewer.

4. Carry Your Documents

Always double-check that the file you’re carrying has all of the relevant documents and is correctly categorised so that if you’re requested to submit a document, you’ll be prepared.

Don’ts

1. Be Nervous

Your primary motivation for visiting the United States is to study, thus you do not need to be concerned. This is something that tens of thousands of students from all around the world do. While a little anxiousness is normal, excessive sweating or hyperventilation is not. If you’re prone to fidgeting, try these breathing techniques before your interview to settle your anxiety.

2. Try Speak With Unnecessary Accent

Do not try to imitate an American accent because the Visa Officer can understand Indian accents. As much as possible, be clear, crisp, and free of forced accents.

3. Stare

There’s a difference between seeing someone in the eye and staring at them without blinking. Remember to blink while speaking to avoid making the interviewer uncomfortable.

4. Offer Docx Unless Asked

In all likelihood, the visa officer will not request any documentation. Please don’t suggest that you show it to them (until and unless they specifically ask to see something).
