The doctors or medical professionals who diagnose or treat various inflammatory conditions that affect joints, tendons, ligaments, bones, and muscles are known as rheumatologists. When people experience constant joint pain or stiffness than they often approach these professionals. Rheumatologists do not perform surgery but they diagnose musculoskeletal conditions.
They also conduct various tests of the rheumatic system like x-rays and chemical pathology to recognize the exact cause of the problem and prescribe suitable treatment accordingly. The demand for qualified rheumatologists has increased due to the rise in people suffering from diseases such as arthritis.
Therefore the prospect of Rheumatologists seems to be bright. Also, there is a scope for Rheumatologists in the reputed government hospitals as well as Corporate hospitals.
Apart from this, Rheumatologists can also open their own clinics. Additionally, they have a scope in the teaching sector to work in different medical schools or they can participate in research.
In order to be eligible to become a rheumatologist, the candidate must have a five and a half years MBBS degree with a 2 to 3 years M.D (medicine) course. The candidate who wants to become Rheumatologists should appear for a Medical Entrance Test conducted by the state or various independent institutions.
There are some tests that are conducted by medical institutions such as AIIMS, GMCH, PGI, AFMC Pune, and more. These exams are often held in May or June. Once the four and half year MBBS degree is done, it is mandatory to take up a one year and six months training to go for the M.D. (Medicine).
