“You never get a second chance to make a first impression.” Yes, first impression matters and the way you look and present yourself is always going to be your first impression. While going to an interview, well dressed is the half success of the interview. Whether you look professional or sloppy can play a huge role in your selection process.
· Learning about company culture is very essential, before choosing your outfit. If the employees working in that company wear suits every day, you too shall wear a similar outfit and if the culture allows employees to wear casuals you can wear them too. However, make sure that you are allowed to do so because maybe they expect the interviewees to be informal clothes.
· Whatever the company culture is you make sure that your clothes are not much fancy and not much casual. Wear the standard expected clothing and make sure to get a professional look no matter what you wear. Compliment your clothes well with perfect colour combination and suitable jewelry.
· Learn what the interviewer might be wearing, you can assume it on the basis of company culture. Whatever the interviewer wears are certain to match with them or slightly better than them.
· Make sure your clothes are neatly ironed and press. Wrinkled clothing is a strict no as it would be the first thing noticed in your clothing. It also shows how unprofessional you are. You’ll lose it there and then.
· For pants outfits, make sure you wear a belt that matches the colour of your shoes.
· Don’t wear flashy jewellery. You’ll distract the interviewers and they would find it difficult to pay attention to what you are saying. Keep your jewellery minimal and elegant.
· Wear a mild perfume, you never know your interviewer might be allergic to strong smells and you don’t want to disappoint them. So either don’t wear any perfume or if it’s hot and you might stink of sweat, wear a mild one.
· For men, make sure you shave and keep facial hair to a minimum. Also, your hair should be neatly combed and not a messy bunch. If your hairs are long, tie them in a bun, avoid leaving them open.
· For women, don’t wear anything that is too revealing. It’s best to keep your body parts inside your clothing and not be too exposed. A good interviewer will never select you just because you are dressed likewise. In fact, many companies want their employees to dress like professionals with an elegant dress.
· For women, don’t overdo your makeup. Wear natural colours and avoid heavy eyeshadow, eyeliner and bright coloured lipstick.Be as natural as possible just enhance your beauty with a bit of makeup that is nude makeup.
