While religion seems to be referenced everywhere, from the campaign trail to the sports field to the stage of an awards ceremony, it is a topic to avoid in the workplace. Faith is a personal matter, and many individuals are sensitive to it. There is no need to be hidden about your religion; it is completely OK to highlight activities you do to celebrate it, but keep in mind that not everyone worships in the same way.
Politics is most likely the most explosive topic. It produces temper tantrums and has terminated relationships, including those involving close friends and relatives. Given the amount of time you spend at work and the need to get along with and work alongside your coworkers, having discussions about it isn’t worth it.
Never share your sex life in detail. Really. There is simply no reason for anyone to be aware of what is going on between you and your partner. This topic makes many people uncomfortable and may make your coworkers feel awkward around you. Discussing your sexual life can land you in legal trouble.
There’s nothing wrong with thinking of your current situation as a stepping stone to something greater, but keep those views to yourself. Talking about your objectives may, understandably, cause your supervisor to question your loyalty and some coworkers to despise you. If you want to progress inside your current organization, do your job exceedingly well and, of course, inform your employer that you want to progress up the company’s ranks. Your actions will speak for themselves.
