The government of North Carolina runs the NC Education lottery and was founded when Governor Mike Easley signed the North Carolina State Lottery Act and the Appropriations Act in 2005.
The North Carolina Education Lottery was enacted in the same year. The NC lottery net goes directly to the state’s education to benefit them.
The money they receive from the lottery is used to cover the costs for the transportations provided by school such as bus drivers, their salaries, fuel and other related costs.
The lottery fund is also utilized for school construction, non-instructional support staff, pre-kindergarten for at-risk-four-year-olds and college financial aid as per the need.
The spending of each dollar is decided by the State Lottery Act.
According to the 2017 report from the Program Evaluation Division of the General Assembly, the lottery sales and funding have been increased every year.
In the 2005 legislation, the State lottery commission was allocated as follows: 50% for reduction in class size, 40% for school construction and 10% for scholarships.
In 2018, 57% NC Education Lottery funding went to the non-instructional staff, 19% for school construction, 12% pre-kindergarten, 6% to the LEA transportation, 4% for scholarships and 2% for the need based financial aid.
Seven percent is paid as a commission to retailers and fifty percent is paid as a prize to the winners.
If you win a lottery, the North Carolina Education Lottery will make electronic lump sum payments on the same day to the lottery winner.
