How to deal with conflict peacefully

As humans, we have different kinds of the perspective of looking at things. We all have a different thought process and different behaviour. Basically, none of us is the same and thus there are going to be a difference of opinion that would lead to conflicts. However, dealing with conflicts and that too peacefully is necessary to maintain good relations. Here are some ways you can deal with conflicts peacefully.

· Stay calm

If you want to deal with conflict peacefully, instead of expecting the other person to stay calm and talk nicely. You yourself try to stay calm. Lower your tone, talk to them with a soft tone and believe me they won’t be able to raise their voice on you. There’s a common human tendency when the other person talks in a higher tone you start to talk in higher tone too and most of the time higher than them just to prove yourself correct. So stay calm yourself and avoid raising your voice or even talking anything hurtful.

· Let others speak

Let the other person speak, until then you must keep quiet and listen to them carefully. Not letting other people speak can frustrate them and thus act as a fuel to the fire and raise the tension between both of you. So taking turns to speak and listening to each other carefully is very essential if you are trying to solve the conflict peacefully.

· Don’t stand verbal abuse

If the other person comes down to the level of verbal abuse, don’t stand by it. Stop them there and then. Mention it clearly that abusing won’t help to find a solution and you are not allowed to abuse me by any means. Be clear with your words and stand for yourself firmly. Which also means that you too should not get into abusing verbally to the other person as a response.

· Admit your mistakes

As and when you realise your mistake, admit it and say sorry. Don’t let your ego spoil your relationship. If you find out the mistake was yours apologising is the best way to end the conflict. At, the same time if the other person is not apologising don’t make it about yourself, don’t consider it as a reason that will hurt your ego.

· Consider other person’s perspectives

Another person has a point of view to the entire conflict, no one really gets into conflict without any reason. There’s always a reason behind every behaviour of a person, you must try to understand that reason. Try to look at the conflict with their point of view and it will become easier for you to understand them and deal with them peacefully.
