Self-love can frequently appear selfish in a society where we’ve been taught to put others before ourselves. We experience guilt when we set aside time for self-love, which makes it difficult for us to stick with it. It aggravates me. We struggle to grant ourselves the right to experience self-love even though we are aware of our need for it. What a paradox, huh?
The self-love revolution is gaining traction in our time, but we struggle to put it into practice because it goes against everything we were taught to believe. Most of us didn’t learn about self-love growing up because it was never taught to us in school or by our parents.
We discovered how to prioritize others. Success is significant, as we discovered. We discovered the value of labor and monetary gain. But we didn’t learn how to maintain our energy levels for that voyage.
Self-love serves as both our fuel and the cornerstone of who we are. This is the foundation upon which everything else is built, and if it is weak, life seems unstable. We can all agree that the results of self-love may occasionally feel pretty wonderful for those of us who have experienced its power. We undergo changes—good changes—the minute we begin to love ourselves. Things start to fall into place magically, and life starts to go along with more ease. Things go better in relationships. Health gains. Life starts to feel nice, outrageously good even.
Recognize and Order Your Needs
You must acknowledge your wants if you’re going to have a meaningful relationship with yourself. Without self-love, you disregard your needs and prioritize those of others, including your lovers, friends, family, and coworkers. Self-love is all about recognizing your needs and giving them the attention they deserve in your life. It’s important to follow your true gut instinct.
Get to Know Your True Self
Codependency has to disappear. Self-love encourages you to attend to your own needs. By learning to take care of yourself, you’ll grow into the person you want to be. You’ll get a more firm sense of self as you appreciate the grace and freedom of being genuine to yourself.
