5 Best Train Journeys In India One Must Not Miss

Indian Railways is among the world’s largest rail systems, connecting people all throughout India. The sound of a train whistle sends us back to our childhood when train journeys were the source of some of our fondest memories.

Here are a few rail journeys that you should not miss.

1. Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (New Jalpaiguri-Darjeeling)

Between Darjeeling and Ghum, the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway is a miniature steam railway that runs past huge tea gardens. It winds its way through plantations and hills. The finest part is that it comes to a rest for ten minutes at Batasia Loop, where it spirals around a beautiful garden. The most spectacular views of the majestic Kanchenjunga can be seen here.

2. Goa (Vasco Da Gama – Londa)

This rail route will take you through the greatest of the Konkan Coast and the Western Ghats Mountains, via dense woods, each town, foamy waterfalls, fascinating tunnels, and beautiful green meadows. Dudhsagar, India’s tallest waterfall, is located near the Goa-Karnataka border and is a highlight of this route.

3. Kashmir Valley Railway (Jammu To Baramulla)

Though being the most challenging railway project in India, Kashmir Railway is also one of the most scenic and intriguing. It travels through major earthquake zones, high-altitude mountain passes and terrain, and extremely cold weather, yet it is well worth your time and effort to see.

The Aharbal Waterfall in Kashmir is the slice of heaven that is simply breathtaking.

4. Nilgiri Mountain Railway

The Nilgiri Mountain Railway was the venue for Shahrukh and Malaika’s popular dance number “Chaiyya Chaiyya,” in which they were dancing on the roof of a train. A ride on the Nilgiri Mountain Railway, which begins in Mettupalayam and ends in Coonoor, is undoubtedly the most captivating method to reach gorgeous destinations such as Ooty and Coonoor.

The tranquil vistas of the valleys, as well as a thrilling ride across India’s oldest and most dangerous Seabridge, Pamban Bridge, are truly unforgettable.

5. Golden Chariot Train: Bangalore (Karnataka) to Goa

Golden Chariot, one of India’s more opulent trains, provides a sense of the country’s southern heritage while still providing modern luxuries. This train takes you on a magnificent seven-day journey via popular tourist destinations such as Mysore, Hampi, and Goa. Additionally, you will get access to their onboard spa, gym, massage facilities, and even guided excursions at each destination. Exquisite meals and live performances will keep you engaged at all times.
