5 Lessons you can learn from Game of Thrones

Game of Thrones is a record-shattering series with 8 seasons. It is rich with complex characters and plots that impart wisdom and hard truths, leaving the audience not only entertained but with a better, deeper understanding of life. There are many lessons, some substantial, some small, that can be taken away from the books and the series.

· “You’ll never walk again, but you will fly.”

– Former Three-Eyed Raven to Bran the New Three-Eyed Raven (Season 4, Episode 10)

Things that are gone in past, cannot be procured again. But there will be new doors opened for you and new opportunities coming up to you that will help you achieve things you never imagined.

· “A mind needs books like a sword need a whetstone if it is to keep its edge.”

– Tyrion Lannister (Season 1, Episode 2)

To keep your mind sharp you must keep reading books. Books are the fuel to our brain and we must never stop reading books if we want to keep our mind sharp.

· “Never forget what you are. The rest of the world will not. Wear it like armour, and it can never be used to hurt you.”

– Tyrion Lannister to Jon Snow (Season 1, Episode 1)

Always remember your roots, your abilities and liabilities. Embrace it so that it is not used against you. Accept your shortcomings openly and you won’t get triggered when used to hurt you.

· “There is a beast in every man and it stirs when you put a sword in his hand.”

– Ser Jorah Mormont (Season 3, Episode 3)

Every human being has a good side and an evil side. There’s a beast hidden in every human and when power is bestowed upon them the real side of that human is exhibited. So never fail to evaluate people before giving power in their hands.

· “Good, now go fail again.”

– Ser Davos to Jon Snow who whines about failing (Season 6, Episode 3)

One important thing game of thrones taught us is to be brave enough to fail if you want to succeed.

Some more lessons –

· Surround yourself with the best people for you and listen to them

We learned this lesson from Daenerys, who has always surrounded herself with smart people and people who will help her push forward.

· Know when to ignore the advice

“Peace never lasts my dear. Will you take a bit of advice from an old woman? He’s a clever man your hand. I’ve known a great many clever men, I’ve outlived them all. You know why? I ignored them. The lords of Westeros are sheep. Are you a sheep? No. You’re a dragon. Be a dragon.”

· Never underestimate the power of a woman

Between Daenerys, Sansa, Arya, Brienne and Cersei, the women basically run things. “Yes, all men must die,” Daenerys says to Missandei. “But we are not men”. That’s some actual girl power. No show has ever exhibited wonders of women than this one.

· There’s always more to learn

“you know nothing, Jon snow” it was the truth Jon snow need to know. He was unaware of what was coming his way. Also, in real life we must never assume we know everything, there’s always something more to know.
