Mohammed Yusuf Khan also known as Dilip Kumar, was an Indian actor and filmmaker, he was referred to as the “Tragedy King” for his depiction of serious roles in movies. He was “The First Khan” of Bollywood, he has been portrayed as one of the greatly successful film actors in the industry. Dilip Kumar holds the title for most achievements for the Filmfare Award for Best Actor.
In his career over five decades, Kumar acted in over 65 movies. He debuted as an actor in the movie Jwar Bhata in 1944.
In the 1970s Kumar’s career took a downturn, because of a lot of marketable failures. In 1976, he went on a five-year halt from films and came back with the revolutionary theater Kranti, which was the highest-paid Indian film of the year. He proceeded to play leading roles in movies such as Shakti in 1982, Karma in 1986, and Saudagar in 1991.
Dilip Kumar’s private life was the topic of much media interest. He was in a relationship with actress and co-star Madhubala they ended after the Naya Daur court case in 1957. He wedded actress Saira Banu in 1966. In 1994 he was awarded India’s greatest award in the field of cinema, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award.
The Government of Pakistan awarded Kumar with Nishan-e-Imtiaz in 1998, he was the only Indian to have received the honor. Kumar became the first Indian actor to charge ₹1 lakh per film in 1950. Kumar died at Hinduja Hospital in Mumbai on 7 July 2021 at age of 98.
