A school under Delhi government is to be renamed after Ravi Dahiya who won a silver medal in the recent Olympics in Tokyo. Manish Sisodia, the Delhi Deputy Chief Minister has announced that the government school will be renamed after Ravi Dahiya, since he is the alumni of the government school in Delhi’s Adarsh Nagar.
This decision was taken when he visited the school, where he was welcomed by the staff and Sisodia.
Ravi Dahiya is from a village in Sonipat and he had studied in the senior secondary school for boys in Adarsh Nagar. This school, now is supposed to be rechristened as Ravi Dahiya Bal Vidyalaya. Sisodia has tweeted, “Olympic medal winner Ravi Dahiya was today welcomes at his school in Adarsh Nagar.
It was an emotional moment for his teachers. The government has decided that the school will now be named as Ravi Dahiya Bal Vidyalaya.”
Dahiya, the 23 year old wrestler secured a silver at Olympic Games in Tokyo after losing the final against Russian Olympic Committee’s (ROC) Zavur Uguev in the 57kg freestyle category.
He reached the finals after toppling Nurislam Sanayev of Kazakhstan who was a former World Championships silver medal list.
Ravi Dahiya is the fifth Indian wrestler after KD Jadhav, Yogeshwar Dutt, Sushil Kumar and Sakshi Malik to compete on the Olympic podium. He is considered as the second grappler after Sushil Kumar to win a silver medal at the Olympics.
He is also a bronze medalist from 2019 World Wrestling Championships and a two-time Asian champion.
