In Sikkim, one can find astonishing glaciers and beautiful landscapes. Sikkim is known for its natural elegance and also for its rich history and culture. There are several Sikkim festivals that are enjoyed by the people.
With a lot of colors and liveliness, these festive events in the state of Sikkim bring about a wonderful amalgamation of all these elements.

Here are the amazing festivals celebrated in Sikkim

1. Losoong Festival

Losing is one of the most significant festivals of this fascinating state. This festival is the beginning of the Sikkimese New Year. It is enjoyed with immense happiness and enthusiasm. This is also the season of harvesting for the local neighborhoods. This festival has numerous traditional folk dances, ceremonies, and rituals.

2. Sonam Lhochhar Festival

One of the greatly celebrated festivals of Sikkim is the Sonam Lhochhar Festival. It is also spelled as Sonam Lhosar. This festival is celebrated by the Tamang community in this North-Eastern state in India. This marks the start of the Tibetan New Year for the community. The ceremonies are conducted with absolute devotion and the celebrations are full of fanfare and excitement.

Both men and women get attired in colorful and traditional clothes. There are masked men who dance to the harmonious beats of Damphu to alleviate all the negative powers and evil spirits.

3. Losar

Losar is a Tibetan word that means New Year. It occurs simultaneously with the end of harvesting season providing the farmers a much needed relaxation from all the work and celebrating their hard work.

This event is really important to the Tibetan Buddhists who are inhabiting this beautiful state. Along with the other things, the ceremony of making a mixture of roasted barley flour and butter and keeping it on home altars is important. It’s basically praying for a satisfactory harvest in the current New Year.

4. Bhumchu

The word Bhumchu means a sacred pot of water. Like other Sikkim festivals, this occasion is also enjoyed with all the pomp and it shows a specific emphasis on the rites and rituals.

5. Tendong Lho Rum Faat

Tendong Lho Rum Faat is one of the most historical and crucial Sikkim festivals. There are outstanding celebrations over the whole state, with major rituals and rites happening at Namchi.
