The greatest designed and the world-famous aircraft, Concorde retired after 27 years of service. It last touched the land in 2003, three years after the Air France Flight 4590’s crash.
First, Air France grounded their Concorde which was followed by British Airways. According to the Interestingengineering, this supersonic passenger flight was a marvelous yet noisy and aluminum polluting aircraft. Concorde was a revolutionary aircraft that was the first to have computer-controlled engine air intakes in Aviation history. These were called supersonic planes because they traveled faster than the speed of sound.
The supersonic planes took half the time i.e. three and half hours instead of seven hours to fly from New York to London but these flights were abandoned in 2003.
Concorde supersonic flights were not permitted in the USA due to the sonic boom that disrupted the people below. Although it was banned in many European countries like Sweden, Norway, Switzerland, W Germany, a ban in the US was a major blow.
Although it was an innovative aircraft, it lacked efficiency. This aircraft was built before the oil-price shock of the 1970s and it consumed a high amount of fuel for speed converter. Concorde aircraft became unprofitable with its high energy consumption during the high fuel prices.
It should have been grounded in the 1980s but it always preferred prestige over efficiency as people were willing to pay for it. After the crash in 2000, it financially became unaffordable and unworkable with expensive tickets, consumption of high fuel, and rising maintenance costs.
