Isn’t it sometimes easy to feel that the YA community is ruled by only a few books? We understand that there are fantastic, deserved books that are eclipsed by the most popular ones, but worry not! For all you YA book nerds out there, we’ve assembled a list of must-reads in any genre.
The Body Electric by Beth Revis
Beth Revis has written a fantastic novel about artificial intelligence based on an old short tale she wrote, and it couldn’t be better. It won’t leave your hands once you’ve picked it up, and it’s packed with genuine surprises from an unreliable narrator. It’s fascinating and thought-provoking, and it would be a crime to miss out on it.
Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea by April Genevieve Tucholke
In this novel, Tucholke pushes gothic to new heights. It’s an engrossing mix of romance, horror, and psychological suspense that has unfortunately gone overlooked by many readers. The characters all have their quirks and flaws, but that’s part of what makes this novel so difficult to put down: you know they’re doing everything wrong, and you’re looking forward to the consequences.
Seven Ways We Lie by Riley Redgate
This book focuses on seven high school students who all represent the seven deadly sins. It’s interesting, outrageous, and difficult to put down. Give It A Try
All Our Yesterdays by Cristin Terrill
Giving nothing away from the novel we would just add, time travel, unexpected love, and sacrifice. While it isn’t always shocking, it is a fascinating journey that will leave dumbfounded by the end. Now is the time to read it. Go Ahead
Tiny Pretty Things by Sona Charaipotra and Dhonielle Clayton:
All we need in a book are ruthless ballerinas, a broadcast of characters, and New York City. This novel, the first in a duology about three ladies at an exclusive ballet training school, tackles far more than you may think. Eating disorders, bullying, and institutionalised racism are all to be expected, but digging deeper into the minds of these young women reveals much more. It does all of this and more without jeopardising the novel’s central theme of dancing.
