The 22nd running of the FIFA World Cup is scheduled to take place in Qatar on 21st November 2022. The associate members of FIFA, the national teams have contested the quadrennial international men’s football championship. An interesting fact is that this is the first World Cup to be held in the Arab World and the second World Cup scheduled in Asia after the tournament in South Korea and Japan of 2002.
This is the last tournament that will hold 32 teams as there is supposed to be a rise of 48 teams in the tournament scheduled in 2026 which will be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Also, the 2022 World Cup is to be held between late November to mid-December due to its immense summer heat and is the first World Cup to not be organized in May, June, or July.
The playing venues are 8 in the 5 host cities Doha, Ras Abu Aboud, Al Rayyan, Al Wakrah, Al Khor, and Lusail. There are going to be a total of 65 matches. The stadiums of Qatar are like no other as they were constructed to reflect the historical and cultural aspects of the country. The opening match is recognized at the Al Bayt Stadium whereas the final match is at the Lusail Stadium which is the largest venue with 80,000 seats.
The bidding procedure of FIFA World Cup 2022 began in January 2009 when Mexico withdrew from the proceedings whereas Indonesia’s was rejected. Later Qatar won the 2022 World Cup.
